together with all my carpenters & joiners tools of all kinds & sorts whatsoever 
And my desire is that my people continue to work with William Philips untill Christmas 
next and that he the said William Philips have the benefit of there labour untill then aa 
full compensation of what money I am owing of him

Item: My desire is that John Edmund Dawson may not charge my estate with the hire of 
Anthony for the Present year as I think the Neg given sufficient satisfaction

Item: My desire is after paying my just debts is that all the residue of my estate not hereto
fore given / except my bay horse Jack ball / be equally divided between John & Bowling 
Barnes sons of Bailey Barnes to them & their heirs forever.

Item: I give unto William Philips my bay horse Jact Ball as I before Excepted to him and 
his heirs forever. I do nominate and appoint my friends Edmund Turner & Jno E Dawson Exors 
of this my Last Will & Testament  In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affix'd my 
seal this 6th day of April 1796.

Last Will in presence of
Henry Smith       } At a Court held for the County of Southampton on Friday 
William Sturgeon  } the 15th day of April 1796.   This Will was presented in court by Edmund 
Henry Brantly     } Turner one of the Exors therein named / time allowed for the other to qualify),
                    prov'd by the oaths of Henry Smith & William Sturgeon, two of the 
witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.  And on the motion of the said Executor 
who made oath according to law, Certificate is granted him for obtaining a Probat there
of in due form giving security whereupon &c.

In the Name of God Amen I James Vick of the County of Southampton being i
n perfect mind & memory do make & ordain this my last will & testament in manner 
& form following.  first & principally I give and recommend my soul into the hands 
of Almighty God & my body to be buried in a christian like manner at the discretion 
of my friends hereafter named

I lend to my loving wife Sarah Vick during her Widowhood the land whereon I now 
live containing by estimation 315 acres, the land I purchased of Lewis Joiner inclusive 
which said land is adjoining the land of Arthur Arrington William Crumpler 
Tho Williams & Nathl Jones  Also twelve negros Viz Cate, Charles, Fan, Jacob Pompey, 
Milly, Rose, Peg, Sal, Lendy, Archer, & Lucy and also my stock of horses cattle sheep 
hogs &c, all my house hold & Kitchen furniture & plantation utensils.

Item: I give and bequeath to my son Parks N Vick after my wifes decease or marriage 
the aforementioned tract of land that is lent to my wife to him & his heirs forever.

Item: I give and bequeath to my son Richard Vick the tract of land I purchas'd of Benja 
Andrews adjoining the lands of Samuel Drewit & Charles Buggs to him & his heirs forever

Item: I give & bequeath to my daughter Mary Worrell a negro girl by the name of Chainey which 
she has now in possession to her & her heirs forever

Item: I give & bequeath to my daughter Lydia Worrell one Negro boy named Ned which 
she has now in possession, to her & her heirs forever

I lend to my daughter Tabitha Vasser one neg Girl named Edy during her life 
and after her death I give and bequeath the sd girl with her increase to Tabitha 
Vassers children lawfully begotten to be equally divided to them & their heirs forever

Item: I give and bequeath to my son Joseph Vick five shillings to him & his heirs forever

Item: I give and bequeath to my son James Vick five shillings to him & his heirs forever.

After paying my debts & legacies aforementioned I lend to my Sarah Vick all the 
residue of my estate during her widowhood, and after her death or marriage I 
Give & bequeath all my estate that is not before given to be equally divided amongst 
my three Children namely Parks Nicolson, Richard & Rebecca to them & their 
heirs forever __ And my desire is that if either of my three children shoud [sic] die 
before they arive to age or without issue, that all I have given to such deceas'd 
Child or Children shall remain to the survivor or survivors of the said three 
children equally to be divided and to their heirs forever

My desire is also that as my wife is to have the profits of my estate that 
she shall Support & Educate my children out of the same.

Lastly, I do constitute my friend Micajah Halliman Exor & my Sarah Vick 
Extx of this my Last Will & Testament   In Witness whereof I have hereunto set 
my hand & seal this 13 day of September 1793.

Tho W. Clements } the 15th day of April 1796  This Will was presented                   
in court by Sarah Vick the Extrx therein named proved by the oaths of 
Noel Waddill & Josiah Murfee two of the witnesses thereto & Ordered to be 
recorded   And on the motion of the said Extrx who made oath according to 
law certificate is granted her for obtaining a probat thereof in due form
